Cäcilia Altenberger

German cellist Cäcilia Altenberger was born in Munich and began her initial training with Prof. Jan Polášek, Prof. Helmar Stiehler and Prof. Wen-Sinn Yang. She went on to study with Prof. Reinhard Latzko at both the Basel Academy of Music and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, and also attended the Lübeck Academy of Music studying with Prof. Troels Svane. Further musical influences have come from masterclasses Wolfgang Boettcher, Wilfried Tachezi, Claude Starck, Ramon Jaffé, Laurentiu Sbarcea, Gustav Rivinius, Philippe Muller and Jens-Peter Maintz.

Cäcilia Altenberger achieved artistic success from a young age, winning numerous prizes such as the 1.Bundespreis by Jugend Musiziert and the 1st prize of the AGV Kultururwettbewerbs München. She was the recipient of numerous grants from foundations such as the Gerd Brucerius Förderstipendium der Deutschen Stiftung Musikleben and the Oscar und Vera Ritter Stiftung Hamburg and was also a scholarship holder from Live Music Now und Villa Musica.

In 2009/10 Cäcilia Altenberger was acting Assistant-Principal cellist of the Philharmonic Orchestra Hansestadt, Lübeck and since 2010 she has lived in Vienna performing regularly as a chamber musician and soloist. She also performs as both a member and principal cellist with various orchestras such as Vienna Kammerphilharmonie, the Vienna Kammerorchester and the Mörbisch Festival Orchestra.
